We are proud to announce the launch of the groundbreaking FixHub | Power Series designed for repair enthusiasts, professionals, and beginners alike. The Smart Soldering Iron and Portable Soldering Station are set to revolutionize the world of soldering, combining portability and ease of use with powerful, precise performance in a way that no other soldering iron has before.
We’re Going All-In on Soldering
No electronics workbench is complete without a soldering iron, but existing solutions often fall short in delivering the performance and convenience that modern repair work demands. The FixHub | Power Series was born out of frustration—after our founder had to drag an extension cord out to his car just to fix a stereo, we knew there had to be a better way. With over 1,000 repair guides on iFixit requiring a soldering iron, we set out to create the best tool possible for our community and ourselves.

The Smart Soldering Iron is more than just another soldering iron; it’s a high-performance tool that combines rapid heating, portability, and smart features to meet the exacting standards of today’s fixers. This is the tool that makes soldering as mobile as your gadgets, empowering you to repair on your own terms, whether you’re in the field or at your workbench.
The Smart Soldering Iron

- Powerful Heating: Capable of outputting 100 watts of heat, the FixHub Smart Soldering Iron reaches soldering temperature in under 5 seconds. An integrated accelerometer automatically cools the iron when idle, prolonging the life of the tip and ensuring safety.
- Powered by USB-C: Enjoy the flexibility of using any USB-C Power Delivery source, such as iFixit’s 65-Watt GaN charger, to power your iron.
- Beginner-Friendly Features: Safety is a priority with automatic sleep mode, heat-resistant protective cap, temperature indicator ring light, and fall protection. This is the ideal tool for anyone new to soldering.
- Ergonomic Design: The comfortable grip supports soldering for hours. Designed to be held like a pencil, the iron has a shorter soldering tip length than the competition, making it easier to get precise heat placement.
- Gets to Work Fast: Ready to solder in under 5 seconds.

Brett Hartt, Product Development Lead at iFixit, is proud to share this feature-rich soldering iron with the world: “We’ve packed the FixHub with advanced safety features that make soldering more accessible and safer than ever before. Whether you’re new to soldering or a seasoned expert, these features will give you the confidence to tackle any project.”
The Portable Soldering Station

- Portable Power Station: The dual-port battery power supply is powerful enough to run two irons simultaneously or charge a phone while you work.
- Solder for Hours: The large 55-watt-hour battery ensures over eight hours of continuous soldering on a single charge. Capable of soldering over 2,000 through-hole joints on a single charge, the Power Station just goes and goes and goes.
- Compact Soldering Station: The Portable Soldering Station is an adaptable, compact tool for any workspace. Take it with you on the go or replace the bulky soldering station on your workbench.
- USB-C Power Source: Charge your smartphone, laptop, or other electronic devices with 100 watts of USB Power Delivery output.
- Repairability Built In: True to iFixit’s mission, the Portable Soldering Station is designed for easy servicing, with quick battery replacement and a durable design that will stand the test of time.

Shahram Mokhtari, iFixit’s lead technician, is using the Power Station and Smart Iron every day. “The FixHub takes professional repair capabilities to the next level. We’ve designed it to empower everyone—from seasoned repair pros to beginners—by offering the perfect balance of power, precision, and portability.”

Watching soldering stations evolve to become more affordable and user-friendly over the last few years has been exciting, and if this delivers, it'll be a fantastic "Just Buy This" option to recommend instead of options that require digging through marketplaces, doing some assembly, or have zero customer support.
Are the tips a new design exclusive to the Fixhub iron? With the Hakko T12/T15 and JBC all-in-one cartridges becoming a de-facto standard since the first self-contained irons, compatibility would go a long way to make this a serious option with ample tip variety and availability.

Hey latgeek! Great question. We evaluated some of the existing tip systems like you mention, but none of them fit our needs for this system. Running 100 watts through the tip is a lot of power, more than most other tips are designed for.
We also wanted a shorter barrel to bring the work closer to you. And we spent a lot of time optimizing our algorithm for the exact thermistor and heater position.
The instant that the iron detects that it's under load, it pours power into the heating element. That makes it feel and perform like a much more powerful iron. We're dynamically responding to the power load and flowing heat into the material.
Also, with our smart sleep system, tips shouldn't wear out nearly as frequently as they do with other iron systems. A significant amount of tip wear comes from oxidation from sitting at a high temperature for a long period of time. The Smart Iron powers down to an idle temperature that's high enough you can get working again quickly, while being low enough to minimize oxidation.

I understand that you wanted a shorter barrel, but that is not necessarily incompatible with supporting common tips - PINE64's Pinecil V2 costs $25 and supports common TS-100 tips, but ships with custom "ST" Short Tips, all with no compromise on wattage (up to 140W over USB PD EPR or 5.5x2.5 12-21V DC barrel jack). I don't want to be overly negative, but am I missing something here? I am sure this iron is great in it's own right and I will likely end up buying one someday, but I feel like the ball was dropped regarding tip compatibility.

I agree with Corom. I would have bought immediately if it supported and came with TS-100 Hakko tips. I would also like to see a compact and portable hot air solution that can still deliver some heat. 100w USB GaN charging units are starting to become common, I already own 140w chargers and battery banks. A soldering iron and hot air station that was portable, supported TS-100 tips, and delivered 100w of heat, also without forcing me to buy a power supply, would check all the boxes.

This kit looks amazing.
Are you considering creating a video showing the full kit, or at least the power station and soldering iron in more detail?
Also, the power station seems so great that one might even think it could be useful for other "tools" too. Can we expect any other "future releases" :) ??
